Crispy fried shallots can be added to just about any dish. Think salads, soup, stir-fries, casseroles, and more. When frying the shallots, allow them to slowly cook in the oil before browning so they become sweet. They take about 10 minutes. For the best crispy fried shallots, slice your shallots thinly and evenly. Use a sharp chef’s knife or mandoline slicer. Makes 1 cup fried shallots and 1 cup shallot oil
We love these bacon wrapped shrimp with the most delicious spicy maple glaze! We make them in the oven and par-cook the bacon before wrapping it around the shrimp so that the bacon and shrimp are perfectly cooked. Wrapping the shrimp with raw bacon may cause the shrimp to overcook while waiting for the bacon to crisp up. Our simple recipe provides the best of both worlds: crispy bacon and perfectly cooked shrimp.
I love these homemade light and crispy waffles. Cornstarch is the secret to crispy waffles. It guarantees that your waffles will be perfectly crisp and tender. Separating the egg is optional but is recommended (especially for deeper waffle irons). This recipe makes 4 standard waffles (1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thick). If you want to make thicker Belgian waffles or use a deep waffle iron, you will get closer to three waffles using our recipe below.
We love this quick and easy chicken sausage soup. Cooked sausage makes this fast. I love using sausage with maple or apple, which works nicely with this soup’s savory base. I add kale and spinach to this soup, but you can use one or the other (4 cups is perfect).
You can make these flourless peanut butter cookies in less than 15 minutes! They are soft and absolutely delicious plain and are extra delicious with a dollop of jam or a drizzle of chocolate on top. We prefer these with a granulated and brown sugar blend, but you can use just one type of sugar. (We use 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup granulated) **If making the jam-filled cookies, adding the jam on the day of serving is best. The cookies will soften too much from the extra moisture if left overnight.
This no bake peanut butter pie has quickly turned into a family favorite. I use Oreo cookies for the crust, but other chocolate cream cookies should be just fine. For the peanut butter, I prefer homemade peanut butter or natural peanut butter that has been stirred well to incorporate the oil. If you have sweetened peanut butter, you may want to decrease the sugar called below by a tablespoon or two to adjust. I also prefer salted peanut butter and think it makes the pie taste even better. If you have unsalted, add a pinch of salt to the filling when mixing.
This easy recipe for sautéed Brussels sprouts is delicious. As the sprouts cook in the pan, they wilt down, turn tender, and become sweet. We love a combination of dried cranberries and pine nuts for this, but other dried fruit and nuts (or seeds) work. *Use a good-quality, thick balsamic vinegar or a balsamic glaze for this recipe.
This is our family’s favorite way to make Margherita pizza at home! We use our favorite homemade pizza dough, an authentic no-cook pizza sauce, mozzarella, and basil. We highly recommend our recipe for homemade pizza dough, but store-bought dough works. Use fresh mozzarella instead of the shredded mozzarella cheese in our recipe for classic Italian pizza. We love fresh mozzarella on pizza but sometimes find that when cooked in home ovens, it doesn’t melt and brown as quickly and instead releases too much liquid. Shredded mozzarella doesn’t have the same problem, so that’s what we end up using instead. Makes 1 large pizza
My family loves these chocolate chip muffins! Our recipe uses sour cream, which makes these muffins super moist and helps them rise tall in the oven. I can’t wait for you to make them!
This easy apple tart is best served warm. We love it alone, but adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream does not hurt.
When I need a slam dunk appetizer, I make this super easy jalapeño poppers recipe! Every time I make them, they fly off the plate. I highly recommend making a double batch!
This soft and tender bar cookie recipe is perfect with chocolate chips or leftover candy bars! I love chopping peanut butter cups and using them in the cookie batter, but use what you love! This is a great cookie recipe to keep around for leftover Halloween candy!
Instant Pot applesauce is super simple to make, makes the kitchen smell incredible, and tastes much better than anything you can buy at the store. Use apples that you enjoy eating. We particularly love using crisp, sweet apples when making applesauce and generally do not add any sweetener. If you feel the applesauce needs some extra sweetness, add a sweetener to taste at the end of cooking. We recommend brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey. Peeled apples make this recipe easy, but you can use skin-on apples. If you do, use a food mill fitted with a medium disk to blend the sauce and remove most of the cooked skins for the best texture. You can puree the skins into the sauce if you do not have a food mill. Or pass the sauce through a mesh strainer to remove the skins. **The cooking time for this applesauce is 5 minutes, but keep in mind that the pressure cooker takes additional time to reach pressure before the cooking time begins and releases the pressure after the cooking time ends.
These healthier banana blueberry muffins are a spin-off from our blueberry muffin recipe. We add whole grains and ripe bananas and reduce the sugar. These muffins are lower in calories, fat, and sugar but still taste great! Feel free to swap the blueberries for other fruit. Diced apples, peaches, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries are all excellent.
These red chicken enchiladas are easy to make with a simple filling of shredded chicken, cheese, and our favorite homemade enchilada sauce. We roll the chicken filling up in tortillas–corn tortillas are the most authentic, but if you prefer flour tortillas, use them! We link to two enchilada sauce recipes in the recipe. We love the quick and easy sauce when we are short on time and use the more authentic sauce when we have dried whole chilies available
Making your own homemade croutons is so easy! They can be made in minutes and made with your favorite herbs and spice blends. Both dried and fresh herbs can be used in this recipe. See the notes section below for our tips.
